Leo from a distance I can see you fading in your sleep with a restless heart tired of it’s own beat Can’t help being changed naturally to blue and green Your body desolving into a sea that lets me breathe Is that a very strange thing to say probably I can see you now just flesh and bones Human connection The way you lived the way you go Is a reflection Your deep loneliness Never a choice, oh Leo! What a correction I find consequence in every thought and every action your body changing into oceans that let me forgive is that a very strange thing to say you tell me is that a very cruel way to feel probably

about

“Leo from a Distance” was initially created as an instrumental, which I played as a kind of comfort tune for myself after my father Leandro died. Musically I was very inspired by Joni Mitchell at the time, which led me to experiment with open tunings on the guitar. I was surprised by the depth and beauty of the grieving process, which, in addition to sadness and pain, also brought a lot of euphoria, strong feelings of happiness, connection and relief. A relative blurted out when I arrived in Spain that my father was "blue and green" when they found him and was quickly silenced by the rest of the family. The poet in me took the picture with great joy that my father had transformed himself into the lush green and bright blue landscape colors of his homeland Asturias.
